What you can manage, and what you cannot

The parts of the site a member account can change, and the parts that stay with administrators.

Smart Village Network separates reading from editing. Reading is open to everyone: the member directory, news, events and services can be browsed without an account. Editing is narrow. An account gives you your own profile and, where the network has granted it, the profile of an organisation or a community you are linked to.

This article sets out that boundary, so that a missing button is easy to read as normal rather than as a fault.

Everything else in an account is read-only or a setting rather than a piece of content.

What no member account can do

The website's own content is maintained by administrators. News items, events, blog posts, the pages under Website → Content, tags, the member records themselves and user access levels are all created and edited in an administration area that member accounts cannot reach.

There is no form anywhere in your account that writes a news item, an event or a blog post. It is not a question of finding the right page: the capability is not offered to members at all.

Note Anonymous visitors and signed-in members see the same published news, events and pages. Signing in changes what you can edit about yourself and, where granted, about an organisation or community — nothing about the site's editorial content.

If something published on the site needs to change, report it through the channels in Getting help and an administrator will act on it.

Two profile fields you cannot change yourself

Your email address and your role are displayed on the profile form but locked there. Neither can be edited by you, by design. An address change is handled by the network on request — see Getting help.

When an editing option is missing

Access is decided per organisation and per community, and the levels are explained in Your account at a glance. A viewer sees no Edit organisation or Edit community button — that is the expected state, not a broken page. Opening an editor address directly without the required rights returns a single line: No edit access.

Important The server decides access on every request. A button that is not shown to you is a convenience, not the protection itself.
