What you can do on Smart Village Network

What is open to everyone, what an account lets you edit, and what stays with administrators.

On Smart Village Network, reading is open to everyone and editing is narrow. An account adds your own profile and, where the network has granted it, the profile of an organisation or community you are linked to. Every internal link opens within the website; the browser back button returns to the previous page, and links to files download them instead of opening a page.

Reading, without an account

The member directory, news, events, services and the blog can all be browsed without an account. The main menu at the top of every page is the same everywhere: Home, the front page; Services, what the network offers; News, announcements and stories; Members, a submenu with the member directory and Become a Member; About Us, background on the network; Blog, longer articles; and Events, upcoming and past events. On a narrow screen the menu collapses into a button in the top-right corner.

Editing, with an account

Signing in adds your account area on top of the public pages. From there you can edit your own profile — name, biography, social links and profile picture (Your account and profile) — and, when your access level allows, an organisation or community profile (Managing an organisation or community profile).

What no member account can create

News items, events, blog posts and the site's own pages are created by the network's administrators in an area member accounts cannot reach. If something published needs to change, report it through Getting help.

Note The Sign up page is a signpost, not a form: it points new members to the membership request. The menu shows Sign in when you are not signed in, and your profile menu once you are. Messages and Chat appear only where those features have been enabled; both are switched off by default.
