Managing an organisation or community profile

Who can edit a profile, what the editor contains, and what happens without permission.

If your account is linked to an organisation or a community, the account dashboard shows an Edit organisation or Edit community button beside it. This article explains what those screens do and who is allowed to use them.

Who can edit

Editing is granted through the access level described in Your account and profile. Viewer access does not include editing, so the button is simply absent for viewers. This is the normal state for most members.

If you open an editor page without the necessary rights — for example from a saved link — the page responds with a single line: No edit access. Nothing is revealed and nothing can be changed.

Important Access is decided on the server for each request. Hiding a button in the page is not what protects the data.

The organisation editor

The organisation editor carries the public profile: name, country, contact details, description, social links, and a logo and photo. Images follow the same rules as your profile picture — JPG, JPEG, PNG or WEBP, up to 5 MB. Save changes stays inactive until something has actually changed, and the change is only recorded after any image upload has completed.

The community editor

The community editor adds location and public-page fields: title, country, postcode, map coordinates, population, short and long descriptions, a description of what makes the community smart, and a logo and photo. Back returns to the account dashboard without saving.

Note Both editors warn you before leaving the page with unsaved changes, in the same way as the profile form.

Where to learn more

The procedures above are the routine, day-to-day edits. Broader administration — creating an organisation, assigning access levels to other people, managing user accounts — is handled by the network's administrators, not by members. If you need one of those actions, ask through the channels in Getting help.
