Organisation overview

The Regional Union of Municipalities of Western Greece (Περιφερειακή Ένωση Δήμων Δυτικής Ελλάδας, PEDDE) is a statutory private-law entity governed by Presidential Decree 75/22-8-2011 (FEK 182), representing the interests of first-tier local governments across the Region of Western Greece including the Regional Units of Achaia, Ιlia and Etoloakarnania. Its 19 member municipalities are: Patras, Erymanthos, West Achaia, Kalavrita, Aigialeia, Agrinio, Aktio-Vonitsa, Amfilochia, Xiromero, Nafpaktia, Thermo, and the Sacred City of Messolonghi; Zacharo, Andritsaina-Krestena, Pyrgos, Ilida, Ancient Olympia, Andravida-Kyllini, and Pineios. All members are actively engaged in supporting rural communities and villages facing multiple challenges linked to demographic shifts, energy and climate transitions, and the conservation of cultural heritage and natural resources—challenges that call for smart, coordinated, effective, and place-based solutions. During the current period member municipalities have joined forces in implementing integrated territorial development strategies. As part of its mission, PEDDE seeks to collaborate with policy bodies and expert networks at national, European, and international levels to promote social equity, cohesion, and sustainable development, with a strong emphasis on the needs of municipalities and communities in mountain, rural and peripheral areas. In particular, PEDDE is committed to facilitating the exchange of knowledge and good practices that build municipal capacity, enhance service delivery, ensure universal access, and drive smart, resilient, and integrated territorial development.
